This on-demand series blends the mystic roots of yoga with modern science. You’ll learn how key body systems work, then connect that knowledge to clear actions in asana.
These classes count toward Continuing Education hours for Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers.
They’re also essential study for serious practitioners who want to understand their body in yoga, not just “do the poses.”
Class 1: Introduction to Physiology and the Respiratory System
Build a simple physiology framework, then explore breath mechanics and how respiration shapes stability, effort, and recovery in practice.
Class 2: The Digestive System
Learn how digestion and abdominal function relate to twists, inversions, and core actions, with practical cues you can apply right away.
Class 3: The Nervous and Endocrine System
Understand stress response, regulation, and hormones, then connect that to sequencing, pacing, and the felt experience of asana.
Class 4: The Cardiovascular System
Explore circulation, blood pressure, and heart workload, and how to practice with more clarity in standing poses, backbends, and inversions.
Class 5: The Urogenital System
Study pelvic anatomy and function, then apply it to pelvic floor support, hip actions, and steadiness in seated and standing work.
Class 6: The Sensory System
Learn how sensory input and perception affect balance and orientation, then refine alignment and attention through smarter feedback.
Class 7: The Immune System
Understand inflammation, recovery, and resilience, and how practice choices can support restoration without guessing.
Dr. Traitteur is an orthopedic doctor, a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, and the director of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Berlin, Germany. He is also the author of the textbook Yoga Asana Anatomy. In the book’s foreword, Geetaji writes: “Though it may seem like a book on anatomy and the range of the movements of the body, an honest aspirant will find it useful to walk on the path of yoga.”
